HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ? Lawyers will regroup for a second day of testimony in a hearing for three former Penn State officials ensnared in the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal, a day after a star witness testified that football coach Joe Paterno had been critical of how the university handled it.

Tuesday's hearing in a Harrisburg courtroom is expected to be short, with just two witnesses.

The judge, William Wenner, must decide whether prosecutors showed enough evidence against the ex-school officials to test the charges in a full trial. The charges, including perjury, conspiracy and endangering the welfare of children, stem from allegations that former Penn State president Graham Spanier, retired university vice president Gary Schultz and ex-athletic director Tim Curley failed to tell police about an allegation against Sandusky, a former assistant football coach, and then tried to hide what they knew.

In Monday's hearing, the star witness, Mike McQueary, testified in a courtroom for the third time since Sandusky's November 2011 arrest that top school officials knew that he had seen Sandusky molesting a boy in a locker room shower.

But the former Penn State assistant coach and quarterback also delivered some unexpected testimony ? that the late Hall of Fame coach Paterno had told him over the years that university administrators "screwed up" in how they responded to McQueary's allegation against Sandusky.

Pressed by defense lawyers about his discussions of the subject, McQueary brought up a specific exchange at football practice in the hours before Paterno's firing on Nov. 9, 2011 ? four days after Sandusky's arrest.

He recalled the head coach saying the school would come down hard on McQueary and try to make him a scapegoat. Paterno also advised McQueary not to trust the administration or then-university counsel Cynthia Baldwin, the former assistant testified.

Lawyers for Spanier, Schultz and Curley say the men are innocent. Paterno died in January 2012. He was never charged.

The core of McQueary's testimony is that he saw Sandusky and a boy engaged in a sex act in the locker room shower in 2001 and within days reported it to Paterno, Curley and Schultz.

However, Curley and Schultz have said McQueary never reported that the encounter was sexual in nature, while Spanier has said Curley and Schultz never told him about any sort of sex abuse. They said they believed Sandusky and the boy were engaged in nothing more than horseplay.

Sandusky is serving a 30- to 60-year prison sentence after being convicted last year of sexually abusing 10 boys. He maintains his innocence.

Much of the testimony Monday revolved around prosecutors trying to show that Penn State officials should have known to report Sandusky to police in 2001 after police investigated complaints in 1998 that he had been showering with boys in university locker rooms.

Lawyers for the defendants tried to show they never tried to hide evidence, destroyed evidence or asked school employees to lie.

McQueary last year sued the university, claiming defamation and misrepresentation and seeking millions of dollars in damages. His contract with the school wasn't renewed after the 2011 season.

Former associate of Boston crime boss Bulger to return to stand

BOSTON (Reuters) - An admitted murderer and former top associate of reputed Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger is due to return to the witness stand on Tuesday to detail Bulger's crimes.

Kevin Weeks, 57, is the second top-ranking member of the once-feared "Winter Hill" gang to take the stand in Bulger's trial on charges he committed or ordered 19 murders in the 1970s and 1980s.

Weeks, who spent just five years in prison after confessing to five murders but agreeing to testify against Bulger, on Monday recounted his role in some of the murders Bulger is accused of committing.

He described Bulger, one of Boston's most notorious gangsters, as an intimidating figure who once aimed a machine gun at a muscle-bound man in a successful extortion bid.

"Those muscles aren't going to do you any good now," Weeks recalled Bulger saying. The threat worked and the gang extorted some $480,000 from the man, Weeks said.

The 83-year-old Bulger, who spent years on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list of fugitives, has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, though on the first day of the trial his attorneys said Bulger did commit extortion, loansharking and drug dealing.

His attorneys have argued Bulger was never an informant for the FBI in the defense's effort to undermine the 700-page file the bureau amassed on Bulger over more than a decade as he regularly met with John Connolly, a FBI special agent .

Bulger's lawyers have argued that Connolly, who is serving a 40-year prison sentence for racketeering and murder, fabricated much of the contents of the file to provide cover for his frequent meetings with Bulger. The lawyers said Bulger paid Connolly for information but gave none of his own.

Providing information to the FBI was considered a major breach of the underworld code. The revelation that Bulger had cooperated with investigators came out after he fled Boston on a tip from Connolly, and led many of his associates to turn against him.

Bulger spent more than 16 years in hiding before authorities arrested him in Santa Monica, California, in June 2011.

Weeks is the second of three close associates of Bulger who are key prosecution witnesses in the trial, which is now in its fifth week. John "The Executioner" Martorano took the stand last month and Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi is also due to testify.

Bulger's life story inspired Martin Scorsese's 2006 Academy Award-winning film "The Departed," with Jack Nicholson playing a character loosely based on Bulger.

Wedding Kiss Photos: Couple Completes Quest To Kiss On All Of Britain's 60 Piers (PHOTO)

One British couple found a romantic way to enjoy a little PDA and honor Britain's iconic seaside piers -- by kissing on every single one.

Hazel Preller told HuffPost Weddings in an email that she and her now-husband Jay met and had their first kiss at the end of Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier in Somerset, England, in 2007. But they were disappointed when the pier burned down in 2008.

"When Fleetwood Pier in Lancashire suffered a similar fate a few weeks later we idly wondered how many piers there were left in the country to have a kiss at the end of," Hazel said. "The idea just snowballed!"

They traveled 7,000 miles over two years to smooch at the end of 60 piers across Britain. The quest ended in 2010, when they married on Brighton Pier in East Sussex.

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) ? More than 1,000 people turned out Monday to a Prescott gymnasium to honor the bravery and sacrifice of 19 Hotshot firefighters who died battling a wildfire in Arizona.

Those in the crowd rocked children in their arms, wiped away tears and applauded robustly after each set of remarks, often rising to their feet. Speakers at the memorial quoted heavily from Scripture.

U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said the Hotshots laid down their lives not only for their friends and loved ones, but for people they didn't even know.

The men died Sunday after the blaze they were battling near the small town of Yarnell, about 85 miles northwest of Phoenix, exploded tenfold in a matter of hours, trapping them.

Authorities say the tragedy all but wiped out the 20-member Granite Mountain Hotshots, a Prescott-based unit.

Prescott Fire Chief Dan Fraijo spoke in a shaky voice and paused frequently as he described throwing a picnic a month ago for his new recruits and meeting their families.

"About five hours ago, I met those same families at an auditorium," he said during the service, held at the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. "Those families lost. The Prescott Fire Department lost. The city of Prescott lost. The state of Arizona and the nation lost."

At the end of the ceremony, dozens of wildfire fighters sporting Hotshot shirts and uniforms from other jurisdictions marched down from the top of the bleachers to the front of the gym auditorium, their heavy work boots drumming a march on the wooden steps.

The firefighters bowed their heads for a moment of silence in memory of their fallen comrades as slides bearing each man's name and age were projected behind them.

The 19 killed were Andrew Ashcraft, 29; Kevin Woyjeck, 21; Anthony Rose, 23; Eric Marsh, 43; Christopher MacKenzie, 30; Robert Caldwell, 23; Clayton Whitted , 28; Scott Norris, 28; Dustin Deford, 24; Sean Misner, 26; Garret Zuppiger, 27; Travis Carter, 31; Grant McKee, 21; Travis Turbyfill, 27; Jesse Steed, 36; Wade Parker, 22; Joe Thurston, 32; William Warneke, 25; and John Percin, 24.

The president of DBU has a message for the world.

This isn't a newsflash to fans of the Texas Longhorns, and particularly those who have lived in Austin or went to school at UT, but the city is pretty awesome:

Just another built-in advantage for a school that puts out defensive backs at a rate that only LSU can currently match. And over the course of the last 30 years, only Miami can contend with Texas in terms of defensive backs taken in the first round, with 12.

So, there's DBU. And the lakes. And the music. And 6th Street. And on and on.

Yeah, Austin is pretty awesome.
