At the start of this month we learned that Morrissey was FINALLY ready to publish his Autobiography and on the day the book was released in the UK this week, we learned that Moz opens up in the book about a serious same-sex relationship he had with his personal assistant/photographer Jake Walters. Also on release day, Moz made an in-person appearance at a book shop in Sweden to sign copies of Autobiography. Fans of Morrissey know that in-person appearances where he makes himself available to the general public under any circumstances are extremely rare. As you can imagine, photos and video from the book-signing immediately made their way online … some for your viewing pleasure below.
I kinda love that Morrissey is fond of wearing matching denim jackets with his denim pants, a la the Canadian Tuxedo … but what struck me most was the color denim he decided to wear for this signing. Back in 1996, when we now know he was in a relationship with Jake Walters, Jake wore a beige denim jacket just like this one at an album signing event at Tower Records in Philadelphia, PA:
Since Moz opened up at last about his relationship with Jake in his autobiography, could he have decided to wear this denim jacket as his book-signing as an homage to the jacket that Jake wore to the ’96 album singing? Honestly, it seems like an extremely subtle thing to do … which is so Morrissey. Here is video from that 1996 album signing that features Moz and Jake:
And here is video from the book-signing that took place in Sweden on Thursday:
Whether or not the beige denim is meant to mean anything at all is really beside the point, I suppose. I’m hopeful that Morrissey will make an in-person appearance in the Southern California area because I wouldn’t mind gettin’ the man’s signature on his Autobiography. Thankfully, I managed to get my hands on an electronic copy of the book so I’ve been reading it (as time allows) until I get home and get my hands on the hardcopy of the book that was delivered yesterday. I’m really anxious to read the whole thing but I’m also trying to savor the experience. Thus far, I’m loving what I’ve read. If you’re a Moz fan, this book is required reading. Pick up a copy immediately … then tell me what you think.
