New HABA Toys {My Animal Friends Arranging Game Review ...

I simply adore European design.? In fact, I would do nearly all my shopping overseas if I could afford the shipping or the plane tickets.? So, finding a retailer like Maukilo that specializes in European design and in heirloom quality toys is pretty much a dream come true.? There are hundreds of ways I could go broke shopping at the Maukilo site, starting with the largest selection of HABA toys and accessories available online.? I?ve often said that I wish my kid?s toys looked like the HABA pages at Maukilo.com and never has that been more true than with their newest 2011 offerings.

Whether you are looking for heirloom quality games, imagination inspiring play sets, or the best in pretend play, HABA?s newest offerings cover it all.? While it would be hard for me to pick a favorite from their newest products, my daughter had a list of 10 ?favorites? that she wanted to share with you.

Here's her Top 10 list, in no particular order:

1)??? My Animal Friends Arranging Game
2200-haba-my-animal-friends-s We got a chance to play with the My Animal Friends Arranging Game these past few weeks and we simply love it.? Instead of other toys that get abandoned after the first few days, I really love that, like everything else from HABA that we own, the kids love it more every day as they find new and exciting ways to play with it.?

At first, the My Animal Arranging Game started out as a puzzle, where we would dump out the sturdy block pieces and then see how fast we could place them back in their wooden storage tray.? Quickly the kids realized how fun it would be to set up a colorful and fun city scene Animal Arrangingthat the frog and mouse could live in, and that?s how they spent hours of their summer break.

?But, instead of being abandoned after this point for games with loud noises and batteries, the third round of play began: seeing how many items we could create out of the 17 beechwood Arranging Game pieces and having everyone guess what our creations were.? This has proved to be hours of battery-free play and one of our favorite new activities.? I love watching how creative they get with the pieces and seeing them guess what each other have made, which is why we are simply raving about the My Animal Friends Arranging Game.?

2)??? Habaland Play Blocks
2397-haha-habaland-play-blocks-s These colorful and fun blocks are similar to the My Animal Friends Arranging Game, only they come with a few more pieces and even a vehicle, trees, and trailer that can add to the fun.? After playing with the smaller building set, the Habaland Play Blocks are something I could see splurging on this holiday season for their extended play value.

And, why not?? Kids have a great time creating their own buildings, houses or even towers with the 25 sturdy beechwood pieces and they also love having a car to drive through the town to deliver goods. And, then when the kiddos are done playing town you can still play the ?guess what I made?? game as well!

3)??? Doll Annie, 13.5" , 4)??? Doll Clara, 13.5"? & 5)??? Doll Elise, 12"

3944-haba-doll-clara-s My daughter received the Fay Finja HABA soft body doll for her birthday and is simply smitten, so of course the three newest HABA dolls are high up on her wishlist.? While the dolls look cute and fun online, once you see them in person you will be blown away.? They all not only have quality features and are the perfect size and weight for kiddos, their accessories are simply craveable!?

Note: All 12? sized HABA dress sets will fit the 13.5? and 12? dolls, which means you can buy them different outfits throughout the year.? But, did you know that HABA makes adorable doll accessories, too?? They do!? Which, of course, leads me to the next thing on my daughter?s wishlist?

6)??? Infant Seat for baby dolls
My daughter is a stickler for details.? I mean, if her baby brother has to ride in a car seat while we?re driving, then of course her beloved dolls can?t be sitting just anywhere while the car is moving.? Her doll certainly would like to ride in the HABA Infant Seat for baby dolls, just like a real baby does.? Not only is this a great idea for your next doll roadtrip, it?s the perfect play companion for your little mommy so she can read to her baby, rock her in the seat, and even let her rest for a while after a busy day.?

7)??? Biofino Savory Breakfast
My daughter makes me breakfast in bed nearly every morning.? We?re talking the works ? eggs, bacon, pancakes, cocoa, you name it.? Naturally, most of it is pretend and what isn?t pretend is plastic, but it?s the thought that counts, right?? What she wouldn?t give to be able to serve this adorable Biofino Savory Breakfast set from HABA to me instead, complete with a roll, egg, 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of salami, a slice of cheese, and a lettuce leaf.? Adorable, no?

8)??? Biofino Fancy Teacakes
3976-haba-biofino-cake-set-s After breakfast is our tea time, which means one thing in our house: sweets.? So, of course we are all drooling over the Biofino Fancy Teacakes set that has some of the most delectable desserts you can imagine.? I think I will take the Black Forest Cake? or the strawberry-chocolate cream roll? or, better yet, I?ll just have one of everything.?

9)??? Pulling figure Crab Calino
3438-crab-calino-s Seriously, how cute is this little crab?? I may not be a fan of them at our beaches or even on my dinner plate, but when they?re made of wood we all love them.? This little pulling figure Crab Calino is perfect for ages 1 and up, which my daughter thinks would be good for her brother?s birthday this month.? I can?t blame her, this little guy?s eight Beechwood legs clicking against each other as my little one pulled it across the floor would certainly make everyone smile.

10)??? Crab Squirter with Water Funnel
5092-haba-crab-squirter-with-water-funnel-s We love the HABA spilling funnel that goes with us every time we head to the beach, so it?s no surprise at all that my daughter is now asking for the Crab Squirter with Water Funnel this year.? Not only would it be perfect sea side, it is also a great idea for in the tub for year-round play!??

What is your favorite new HABA offering?? Do you have a wish list like my daughter {and me}?

United, Arsenal through to League Cup 4th round

By STEVE DOUGLAS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 6:23 p.m. ET Sept. 20, 2011

LONDON (AP) -Manchester United transferred its free-scoring form to the League Cup by cruising past Leeds 3-0 in the third round on Tuesday, while Arsenal had to come from a goal down to overwhelm fourth-tier Shrewsbury 3-1 and avoid another calamitous defeat.

Former England striker Michael Owen scored twice and veteran winger Ryan Giggs added the third as a makeshift United team swept past second-tier Championship side Leeds at Elland Road.

Arsenal also played its reserves and had to work much harder to make the fourth round after slipping behind to James Collins' shock 16th-minute goal for visiting Shrewsbury.

Defeat to a team three divisions lower down in the pyramid would have piled more pressure on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after his team's dreadful start to the domestic season.

However, left back Kieran Gibbs equalized with a far-post header before halftime and second-half goals by the impressive Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Israel captain Yossi Benayoun eased the gloom around Emirates Stadium.

"It was a bit nervy because we played against a good side," Wenger said. "But in the second half, we took over and it was all us."

On a night devoid of any real upsets, Stoke defeated Tottenham 7-6 on penalties after the match finished 0-0 following extra time while Bolton beat Aston Villa 2-0 away in another all-Premier League match.

In-form Newcastle, which is fourth in the Premier League, needed extra time before seeing off second-tier Nottingham Forest 4-3.

Given its lowly position in the league, Tuesday's result was far more important for Arsenal than it was for United, which has won its first five games - scoring 21 goals in the process - to storm to first place in the Premier League.

Wenger was given a vote of confidence on Tuesday by the club's chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, after Arsenal's wretched start to the Premier League season that has seen it lose three out of five matches, plummeting the team to fourth from bottom.

It looked like things were going to go from bad to worse when Shrewsbury took a shock lead in the 16th minute, Collins heading home powerfully a right-wing cross.

Arsenal's defense looked typically shaky - Shrewsbury had earlier hit the post through striker Mark Wright - and the visiting fans derided Wenger by chanting, "You're getting sacked in the morning."

Wenger, though, said he felt relexed throughout.

"I was very calm at halftime because panic doesn't help," he said. "We played a mixture of young and experienced players. We took a gamble and it worked."

Gibbs provided a relieving equalizer in the 33rd by heading in a cross from the right by right back Carl Jenkinson, and Arsenal dominated the second half from start to finish.

Wenger's side deservedly went ahead for the first time when Oxlade-Chamberlain capped a strong first start for Arsenal by lashing a shot into the bottom corner from 30 yards (meters) in the 58th and Benayoun also grabbed his first goal for the club, slotting in a finish from close range in the 79th.

Seeking a fifth League Cup title, and a fourth in last seven years, United had little trouble disposing of a rival that ranked as one of its fiercest before Leeds dropped out of the Premier League in 2004.

Owen, who is behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov in the pecking order of strikers at United, marked his first start of the season by putting United in complete command with two goals in the opening 32 minutes.

The former Real Madrid and Arsenal striker dribbled a finish into the corner for the opener in the 14th and smashed home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area for 2-0 in the 32nd.

"With Berbatov, Hernandez, Rooney and one or two other strikers around the place he's not getting the games he deserves, it's unfortunate for him, but he's fantastic to have around," Ferguson said of Owen.

Leeds' hopes of repeating its FA Cup third-round victory over United in 2010 were then extinguished by evergreen midfielder Giggs, who collected Park Ji-sung's return pass from a short corner, nutmegged a defender and fired a rising shot into the corner.

United had few problems at the other end, despite fielding a defense containing England midfielder Michael Carrick and Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia.

Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen saved the decisive penalty by young midfielder Massimo Luongo as four-time winner Tottenham was eliminated at Britannia Stadium.

Second-half strikes from Chris Eagles and Gael Kakuta helped Bolton to victory at Villa Park while a close-range header by Argentina center back Fabricio Coloccini in stoppage time of extra time edged Newcastle past Forest.

Blackburn beat third-tier Leyton Orient 3-2 while Wolverhampton Wanderers thrashed Millwall 5-0.

Firing Wenger not an option

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis insists that Arsene Wenger's future is not under threat, and dismissed fan complaints that the manager may have lost his touch following the club's worst start to a season for 58 years.

Paying the price

Peter Reid paid a heating bill out of his own pocket and auctioned off one of his medals to meet the team payroll. It wasn't enough.

Elite controllers block integration of HIV DNA into host genome

ScienceDaily (Sep. 19, 2011) ? Alone among those infected with HIV-1, so-called elite controllers spontaneously maintain undetectable levels of viral replication even absent the benefit of anti-retroviral therapy. Now Mathias Lichterfeld of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and Xu Yu of the Ragon Institute show that in elite controllers, integration of HIV-1 DNA into the host chromosomes of CD4 T cells -- the main target cells of HIV-1 -- is markedly reduced in comparison to those whose infection has run a more normal course. "[Elite controllers] behave like people who get effective antiretroviral treatment, despite the fact that they don't," says Lichterfeld.

In the study, the researchers removed CD4 T cells from elite controllers, from random HIV-1 negative persons, and from HIV-1 infected persons with progressive disease, and infected those cells with HIV-1 in the laboratory. While HIV-1 successfully integrated into both reference populations' CD4 T cells far more effectively than into those of elite controllers, the researchers found higher levels of unintegrated, extrachromosomal HIV-1 DNA floating around in the elite controllers' CD4 T cells.

"Overall, this suggests that the process of chromosomal integration of HIV-1 is somehow inhibited in elite controllers," says Lichterfeld. Now poorly understood, the mechanism likely involves a synergistic interplay between multiple innate and adaptive immune defenses, he says.

"We think that these subjects can really teach us a lot about how immune-mediated control can work under real-life circumstances," says Lichterfeld. "If we were to understand in detail what's going on in these patients, we might be able to develop some sort of intervention that could protect people against HIV-1."

This report is consistent with a paper published earlier this year which showed that elite controllers have low levels of chromosomally integrated HIV-1 DNA, and higher levels of extrachromosomal, 2-LTR circular HIV DNA, as compared to patients on highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) (PLoS Pathog. 7:e1001300).

The research is published in the September 2011 issue of the Journal of Virology.

(AP) ? Suspected drug traffickers drove two trucks to a main avenue in a Mexican Gulf coast city and dumped 35 slaying victims during rush hour while gunmen stood guard and pointed their weapons at frightened motorists.

The gruesome scene Tuesday in the downtown of Boca del Rio was the latest escalation in drug violence in Veracruz state, which sits on an important route for drugs and Central American migrants heading north.

The Zetas drug cartel has been locked in a bloody war with drug gangs for control of the state.

Veracruz state Attorney General Reynaldo Escobar Perez said the bodies were left piled in two trucks and on the ground at an underpass near the city's biggest shopping mall and its statue of the Voladores de Papantla ? ritual dancers from Veracruz state.

Police had identified seven of the victims so far and all had criminal records for murder, drug dealing, kidnapping and extortion and were linked to organized crime, Escobar said. He didn't say to what group the victims belonged.

Motorists caught in the horrifying scene Tuesday afternoon posted warnings on Twitter that masked gunmen in military uniforms were blocking Manuel Avila Camacho Boulevard and pointing their guns at civilians.

"They don't seem to be soldiers or police," one tweet read. Another said, "Don't go through that area, there is danger."

Escobar said police were reviewing surveillance video recorded in the area.

Local media said that 12 of the victims were women and that some of the dead men had been among prisoners who escaped from three Veracruz prisons on Monday, but Escobar said he couldn't confirm that.

At least 32 inmates got away from the three Veracruz prisons. Police recaptured 14 of them.

Earlier Tuesday, the Mexican army announced it had captured a key figure in the cult-like Knights Templar drug cartel that is sowing violence in western Mexico.

Saul Solis Solis, 49, a former police chief and one-time congressional candidate, was captured without incident Monday in the cartel's home state of Michoacan, Brig. Gen. Edgar Luis Villegas said during a presentation of Solis to the media.

Solis is considered one of the principal lieutenants in the Knights Templar, which split late last year from La Familia, a pseudo-religious drug gang known as a major trafficker of methamphetamine.

Drug violence has claimed more than 35,000 lives across Mexico since 2006, according to government figures. Others put the number at more than 40,000.

In northern Mexico, the army announced the detention of two more suspects in a casino fire that killed 52 people last month in the northern city of Monterrey.

The two men captured at a bar in Monterrey late Monday confessed to being members of the Zetas drug cartel and participating in the attack, federal prosecutors said.

Separately in Nuevo Leon, Mexican marines captured 19 alleged members of the Zetas drug cartel at a ranch that was being used as a training camp in the town of Colombia, the military announced.

A navy statement said that seven minors were among those detained and that marines seized four rifles, a pistol, and several military uniforms and boots.

Brad Pitt needs to shut up about Aniston

Our readers continue to contribute some funny, smart and incisive comments to our Today Entertainment Facebook page. Every Friday, we'll highlight those that really stood out. If you see a great comment throughout the week, click the ?Like? button underneath it to draw it to our attention.

The top comment, unscientifically chosen by us:

1. On "Pitt wasn't leading 'interesting' life with Aniston"
Adrienne Bayless: "(Aniston is) better off without him. So he doesn't want a typical NORMAL marriage, he wants one that is full of DRAMA and CRAP to keep it 'interesting.' Well, getting with Jolie will give him that. He needs to keep his trashy mouth shut."

Story: Reader: Music-free MTV now 'Moron Television'

And the runners-up...

2. On "Tuskegee Airmen fly again in 'Red Tails'"
Kenneth W. Williams: "I'm hoping they get it right. The special effects look amazing. I did a ton of research on the Airmen for my book, 'Red Tail Heart: The Life & Love of a Tuskegee Airman.' This subject matter is near and dear to my heart."

Video: Watch the 'Red Tails' trailer (on this page)

3. On "Michaele Salahi runs off with Journey guitarist"
Shanti Klemm: "I am just trying to figure out who these people are. If I have to Google their names, I find it strange they are making headlines."

4. On "Nic Cage: Naked man with Fudgesicle woke me"
Gena Bethune McCown: "Am I the only one who found the need to describe what a fudgesicle is humorous?"

Story: Salma should tell Somalians how rich she is

5. On "What's with the makeup on Johnny Depp's Barnabas Collins?
Wendy Hazle: "Oh, trying to pretend I wasn't scared so Mom would let me keep watching, but frightened out of my skin!!! She loved that show, and my sister and I wanted to be big girls and watch too. I have such a clear picture of Barnabas and that ring on his finger. I want this to be a good movie, but I really don't want to see Johnny Depp as a reincarnated Michael Jackson playing Barnabas Collins. It would be so much better to just play it straight, the way the incomparable Jonathan Frid did. That was scary enough!!!"

He's since said his remarks were misinterpreted, but do you agree that Pitt would do better not to mention his ex-wife at all? Discuss on Facebook.

Bin Hammam loses appeal against FIFA life ban

updated 1:11 p.m. ET Sept. 15, 2011

ZURICH - FIFA has dismissed Mohamed bin Hammam's appeal against a life ban from soccer for allegedly offering bribes to presidential election voters.

FIFA says its three-man appeal panel met for seven hours before upholding a July ruling by its ethics committee to expel bin Hammam.

Bin Hammam has previously said he would challenge FIFA's verdicts at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Qatari official must go through FIFA's internal appeals system before taking his case to international sport's highest court in Lausanne.

Bin Hammam, a 15-year veteran of FIFA's executive committee, denies arranging to bribe Caribbean voters in May to support his challenge to FIFA President Sepp Blatter. He later dropped out of the race because of the accusations.

Class In Session Online | Articles Manifesto

Despite tangible absence, you can be in another location due to technology. Keeping in touch with somebody is possible with the use of a PC. Communal networking has made it possible to converse through comments and media distribution. The way tutors conduct their sessions have changed too.

Sooner than the Internet was born, people were used to learning in a concrete classroom and doing researches on a library. Currently, the virtual classroom method is commonly used by scholastic associations and digital libraries are regularly visited by students. You may also seek tutors on the net to guide you with your studies.

More parents and students interact with internet tutors for it gives a more proficient course of action than face-to-face tutorial. For the lesson to commence, both tutor and child must be logged in to a chat program throughout the time of their session. Because of this trend, many web-based tutorial providers emerged so as to compensate the growing need from individuals who are desiring to become skilled at English.

Classes online are categorized into modules relating to complexity. Most web-based tutorial agencies have their unique software program that allows tutors to chat with their learner and discuss the assignment left for them after a lecture. After every class, the home tutor will assign the student a homework that can be seen via a web link to the record.

Once the student is through with the assignment, he can simply click on a Send or Submit button under the form and it will be sent to the tutor. On their next online meeting, the tutor will relay the student?s grade and talk about the items that appear to be hard to pick up. The duration of virtual tutorial classes can range from a couple of months to a year.

Further than the lessons in school, internet-based tutorial can also help a student to be highly secure in using a laptop. When his interest sparks, he can proceed to determine more wonders that technology has to offer.

Check with your trusted tuition agency if they can arrange a session for your child with a tutor online. Course fees may vary depending on the length of the course, the frequency of the sessions and the volume of educational materials used.

Georgia man gets prison time for fondling woman on plane

ATLANTA (Reuters) - A judge sentenced a suburban Atlanta man to six months in federal prison on Tuesday for fondling a sleeping woman on a Delta Air Lines flight from Dallas to Atlanta last year.

Authorities said a 20-year-old woman seated next to Ranchhodbhai Lakha, 61, woke up to find him touching her below the waist during a September 28, 2010 flight.

Lakha touched her again after she objected, prompting her to get up and report the assault to a flight attendant, according to prosecutors. Lakha pleaded guilty to a charge of abusive sexual contact.

"This defendant thought he could get away with taking advantage of a defenseless, sleeping passenger sitting next to him," U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia Sally Yates said in a statement. "He was wrong."

The federal judge ordered the Alpharetta, Georgia man to serve a year of supervised release after he is out of prison. Lakha will have to pay a $5,000 fine and must register as a sex offender, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Self Improvement | Achieve What You Believe - Self Improvement ...

By Marcelina Hardy -

?I?m not going to get my hopes up just yet.? Have you ever told yourself that? Many people do this all of the time. It?s a defense mechanism in case a person doesn?t receive the good news she was hoping for. However, this type of phrase is one of the many phrases that could keep people from achieving success.

Control Life So It Doesn?t Control You

When someone lives by this phrase, she ties herself to the consequences of life. She doesn?t control life, life controls her and her emotions. This means that life also controls whether or not she reaches success. As you can see, this little phrase can have huge consequences in life. It can make you feel stuck in life.

How Fear Holds You Back

When you hold back from something you really want, you hold yourself from going after opportunities that could lead you to success. What?s holding you back? The same reason why you don?t want to get your hopes up ? fear. You don?t want to lose hope you may not reach a goal.

If you change this fear into a belief though you have a better chance of achieving what you want, because fear doesn?t stand in your way. Fear comes from doubt that you won?t be able to achieve something. A belief is that there is no doubt you will achieve a success so there is no fear.

Take out fear and you are free to do whatever it takes to achieve success. If one avenue you take to reach a goal doesn?t work, you?ll take another one. Your hope will always be up because you know that one day you will reach your goals in life and you will achieve maximum success. You know that with continued perseverance you will achieve what you believe.

Exercise: What You Want Out of Life

Take some time today to relax and imagine what you really want out of life. Imagine life with the career you?ve always dreamed of or the relationship with your husband or children you want.? Then instead of hoping for it, believe that you can have it.

The Satisfaction of Success

Take positive steps towards success in these areas of your life. Having faith in yourself can do wonders for your ability to achieve success. If you know you can do it all and have it all, do it. You just need to put it in action. Allowing it to just happen in life won?t work, life takes work and a lot of it, but it?s all worth it for the satisfaction of success.

Health and Fitness ? Migraine Prevention and Your Diet ? Health ...

For some time now, researchers and health professionals have seen a correlation between the foods we eat and our health. When it comes to migraines however this connection can be even more obvious. As any migraine sufferer will tell you, these terrible headaches can often be triggered by just a little of the wrong kind of food. If you?ve suddenly found yourself becoming the victim of these attacks, then keep reading and discover some of the most common migraine triggers.

1. Alcohol: Alcohol is a known migraine trigger. Although any alcohol consumption has the possibility of leading to a hangover the next day, for the person prone to migraines, even a touch of alcohol can send them into a two day migraine. Red wine is of course one of the worst offenders as it contains substances known to trigger headaches like tyramine, histamine, and sulfites. Darker drinks like red wine, whiskey and bourbon also have higher levels of substances known as congeners, which are impurities that can contribute to headaches and hangovers. So if you absolutely must indulge, be sure to stick to clear alcohols like gin and vodka.

2. Caffeine: Although caffeine can have a positive effect on headaches at times, drinking too much, too often can reverse this effect. If you get a withdrawal headache on days without caffeine than you may need to consider your caffeine addiction. If you suffer from migraines one cup may help but anything else may lead to more migraines down the road.

3. Food Additives: Food additives can often trigger bad headaches. The additives most likely to cause migraines include MSG and nitrites. Nitrates and nitrates include food colouring, and food preservatives that are used to cure or smoke certain meats. Nitrates and nitrites are found most commonly in bacon, hot dogs, sausage, ham, salami, corned beef, pastrami, lox and pepperoni, so you may need to steer clear of all of these meets if you are prone to migraines. If you find you are sensitive to any of these than make sure to read labels carefully and avoid foods that are labeled with sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrite, and potassium nitrate.

MSG likewise comes under many names and includes those labeled as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, autolyzed yeast, sodium caseinate, hydrolyzed oat flour, texturized protein, calcium caseinate, and simply yeast extract. People sensitive to MSG may notice the onset of a headache, rash, dizziness, hot flash or stomachache as soon as thirty minutes after exposure.

4. Chocolate: Unfortunately, another one of the worst culprits when it comes to migraines is chocolate. This tasty treat is full of substances that are responsible for migraine headaches. Chocolate and cacao contain phenylethylamine which can trigger headaches by transforming the size of the blood vessels. Changes to the blood vessels leads to inflammation which can thereby lead to headaches and migraines.

5. Tyramine-containing Foods: Tyramine is a substance that is found in a variety of foods including most commonly fermented foods, yeast extracts as found in cakes and bread, beer, smoked fish, cured meats, and aged cheeses. Any of these foods can bring about a migraine for those who are sensitive. Again, these type of foods work to constrict blood vessels. This narrowing of the vessels leads to headaches and migraines by inducing certain chemicals in the brain.

6. Artificial Sweeteners: Artificial sweeteners are also a problem for migraine sufferers. In one study aspartame, as found in NutraSweet, was found to be almost two hundred times sweeter than regular sugar. People who began using this sweetener were also reporting to be more prone to headaches. Medical studies suggest that using Aspartame even moderately, but especially in higher doses (over 900 mg per day) experience more headaches.

Sucralose is another artificial sweetener known to cause migraines. This is found in Splenda and can trigger headaches in those that are sensitive to it. Even though you may not use these in your coffee or tea, you need to still read labels carefully as these can be found in a variety of other foods as well. These sweeteners are often added to cereals, yogurt or breath mints, in order to artificially sweeten these foods without adding a bunch of calories. Make sure you avoid foods that contain sucralose or aspartame therefore if you have migraine sensitivities.

If you suffer from migraines there are also a variety of natural remedies that may help prevent and aid migraines. Some common herbs used for migraines include feverfew and ginger. Both of these can help in different ways. Feverfew has been shown to help prevent migraines when taken for at least six weeks, while ginger helps especially with the nausea that can accompany migraines.

Magnesium is also an important aspect of migraine prevention as it has been shown to be responsible for regulating the blood vessels in the body. If you suffer from migraines then you may want to investigate taking some Magnesium or investing in some natural migraine remedies before opting for the often intense and sometimes debilitating prescription medications.

Gophers coach Kill has seizure, leaves game

(AP) ? Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill is listed in stable condition at a local hospital after suffering a seizure late in the game against New Mexico State. It's the third time in his coaching career that Kill has had a seizure on game day.

Kill was taken from TCF Bank Stadium by ambulance Saturday night after collapsing on the sidelines with seconds to go in the game, a frightening scene that silenced the stadium and had players and coaches from both teams kneeling on the field in prayer.

"He was at no time under any risk in any way," team doctor Pat Smith said.

Smith said the 88-degree temperature coupled with dehydration might have played a role in the seizure.

With the Gophers down 28-21 and trying for the tying touchdown, medical personnel suddenly surrounded Kill on the sideline. He was rolling around on the turf, with his arms and legs flapping back and forth at times as personnel tried to control him. Smith said the Gophers were fully aware of Kill's history of seizures and gave the coach medication to sedate him.

After about 15 minutes, Kill was removed from the field on a stretcher, and the crowd clapped and chanted "Jerry! Jerry!" as he was rolled away. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Smith said Kill was stable and awake, but medicated Saturday night. He said Kill was talking with his wife, Rebecca, and will undergo further testing as a precaution. Smith would not say when Kill would return to the team.

With the outcome in the balance, quarterback MarQueis Gray was rushed and threw incomplete on the next down, and New Mexico State ran out the clock to secure the win.

By that time, all thoughts were with Kill.

Kill twice had seizures late in games while coaching at Southern Illinois, once in 2001 and again in 2005. He also collapsed and had a seizure while taping a television show in 2006. Each time, he was able to return to work without missing a game.

Kill has been taking medication to control the seizures for years, some of which doctors say stem from his treatment for kidney cancer. He had one in the closing seconds of Southern Illinois' 61-35 home loss to Illinois State on Oct. 15, 2005 and another in at the school November 2001.

This was the second health-related scare for a coach in the Big Ten in about a year. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio had what doctors called a mild heart attack after the Spartans beat Notre Dame last September.

Dantonio missed a game against Northern Colorado and then the following one against Wisconsin after being hospitalized with a blood clot in his left leg, but eventually returned to the Spartans sideline to finish out the season.

While Gophers players looked shocked and concerned to see their coach go down on the sidelines, Kill's coaching staff remained calm.

Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said previous experience with Kill's seizures made Saturday's episode easier to handle.

"It looks worse than what it is, for the most part," Claeys said. "He's never missed a game. We just told our kids don't panic with it. We'll keep them up to date."

Gypsy moth caterpillars hormonal slaves to virus gene

ScienceDaily (Sep. 8, 2011) ? Gypsy moth caterpillars infected with baculovirus forfeit safety and stay in the treetops during the day because a virus gene manipulates their hormones to eat continuously and forego molting, according to entomologists. The caterpillars die where they climb and infect other gypsy moth caterpillars. "Normally, gypsy moth caterpillars are active at night," said Kelli Hoover, professor of entomology, Penn State. "They hide during the day in the soil or bark crevices protected from birds. They climb up the foliage at night to feed." Researchers have long known that gypsy moth caterpillars, like nearly all caterpillars, have baculoviruses that infect them and that a gene in the virus, egt, blocks molting in the caterpillar, keeping it in a feeding state. These viruses use most of the tissue of their hosts to reproduce and almost always kill their host.

"Baculoviruses have been known to induce climbing behavior in their caterpillar hosts for over 100 years," the researchers report in the Sept 9 issue of Science. "Until recently, determining the evolutionary basis for these altered behaviors has proven difficult in the absence of a mechanistic explanation."

The infection was labeled tree top disease 100 years ago, but back then, researchers could not look at either the virus' genetic material or the metabolic pathways in the caterpillar. Hoover and her team looked into the mechanism by which the gypsy moth baculovirus manipulates the behavior of the caterpillars.

They identified a specific viral gene, egt, that codes for an enzyme, EGT --UDP-glycosyltransferase -- that inactivates the hormone that triggers molting. Male gypsy moth caterpillars molt five times during their lives, while females molt six times before they pupate and emerge as moths. But infected caterpillars do not molt again once levels of EGT become high enough. EGT induces the caterpillar to climb to the treetops, hang onto the leaf or bark with their prolegs and die. Then, they liquefy and rain viral particles over the leaves for other caterpillars to ingest and become infected. Older caterpillars are induced to die on the bark next to their fellow gypsy moths that pupate and emerge to walk over the dead cadavers, picking up virus that can be transmitted to the next generation during egg laying.

"One of the best ways to control complex behavior is to manipulate hormones," said Hoover. Genes that influence hormones are perfect targets to change behaviors. The viral gene egt blocks molting by inactivating the molting hormone ecdysone, keeping the insect in a feeding state.

"It is good for the virus because if host spends 24 hours not feeding while they prepare to molt, this is time that the host is not getting bigger to maximize the host's biomass to make into more virus," said Hoover. "In this case we've found that that the gene also somehow induces the caterpillars to go to just the right location to enhance transmission of the virus to new hosts."

The researchers are not completely certain why the caterpillars climb or stay aloft during daylight when they are infected. One possibility is that without the molting cue, the caterpillars simply have an urge to eat continuously and so remain in the treetops.

"Michael Grove, my former technician who initiated this study in my lab, thinks that even when the molting hormone is inactivated, the caterpillars may still be triggered to climb to molt," said Hoover. "They climb, but rather than molt, they stay where they are until they die."

To show that the egt gene is responsible for the climbing, the researchers used tall plastic bottles lined with screens for the caterpillars to climb on. The bottles contained an artificial caterpillar diet for food. The researchers tested six different virus infected groups of caterpillars and one uninfected group. Two groups were infected with different, naturally occurring virus; two groups were infected with virus that had their egt gene inactivated in different ways; and two groups had the egt gene reinserted in the viral DNA.

The two naturally occurring viruses caused the caterpillars to climb and die at the top of the container, but the caterpillars infected with virus lacking the egt gene died at the bottom of the container. The caterpillars with the restored egt gene also died at elevated positions.

All the infected caterpillars exhibited the same symptoms during the initial phases of the infection, but only those infected with viruses containing egt climbed to die.

Hoover notes that this is one of the first studies to identify the gene of the parasite responsible for altering the behavior of the host animal. Many parasites manipulate their hosts, but in most cases, how this occurs in not known. Other pathogens that control host behavior in mammals include toxoplasmosis and rabies. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease that mostly infects cats, but can infect other mammals. If a mouse becomes infected with toxoplasmosis, they lose their innate fear of cats and become easier for cats to catch. This benefits the infecting protozoa because it more easily spreads to its preferred host.

The rabies virus also alters behavior causing normally nocturnal animals to appear during the day and to become far more aggressive than normal.

Also working on this research from Penn State were Matthew Gardner, undergraduate honors student now at Harvard; David P. Hughes, assistant professor of entomology and biology; and James McNeil, graduate student in entomology. Also a member of the research team was James Slavicek, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. The U.S. Forest Service supported this work.

President Obama's Very Legal Move on Immigration ? Immigration ...

DHS?s recent announcement on enforcement priorities suggests that the agency, along with the Department of Justice, is serious about trying to target those persons who pose a threat to public safety. Unfortunately, there has been little official communication from either agency about the initiatives underway to review current immigration court cases or to issue broader guidance within DHS on prosecutorial discretion, both follow ups to guidelines issued in a June memo from ICE Director John Morton. To fill the void, immigration advocacy groups have attempted to explain what these initiatives are not:? NOT an amnesty, NOT a blanket deferral of removal program for all DREAMERs or anyone else, and NOT an abandonment of the deportation laws. But because there has been little official guidance, Administration opponents and immigration restrictionists are doing their best to reshape the policy into all of these things and more.

In a recent Washington Post editorial, ?Obama?s Illegal Move on Immigration,? ?two former government officials argue that while the Executive Branch has broad authority to exercise discretion and set priorities, President Obama has overstepped his authority by prioritizing enforcement resources on undocumented immigrants who have criminal records:

This goes far beyond merely prioritizing the use of limited immigration enforcement resources. And it exceeds the president?s constitutional authority by, in effect, suspending operation of the immigration laws with respect to a very large and identifiable class of offenders.

These claims might be worrisome if they were even remotely accurate. At best, the administration has offered a temporary reprieve to persons who are in the lowest priority categories. No laws are being suspended. No case currently on the books is being erased. If the administration follows through on its announcement, the impact will be that some individuals who pose no threat to society will not face imminent deportation.

Furthermore, the administration has explicitly rejected any kind of categorical approach to ending removals. Thus, while we can hope that DHS and DOJ will act judiciously and reduce backlogs by temporarily moving some people out of the deportation process, it is hardly the case that the Obama administration is acting in defiance of the Constitution.

In the same Washington Post editorial, the authors conjure up images of an imperial presidency through references to King James II?s attempt to suspend the laws of England?imagery which seems like overkill when talking about immigration policy. They seem to recognize that they may be overreaching, concluding by hedging their bets:

Obama has not declared his intent to dispense with immigration law, and the point at which permissible executive enforcement discretion becomes suspension of statutory requirements often is one of degree. In this case, however, there is little question that the line has been crossed. The president is entitled to establish enforcement priorities, but the ultimate goal must always be implementation of the law as enacted by Congress. If the president disagrees with that law, he must persuade Congress to change it.

The relevant argument here appears to be that ?the ultimate goal must always be implementation of the law as enacted by Congress.? With close to 400,000 deportations annually under President Obama, a stubborn commitment to enforcement programs like Secure Communities, and repeated efforts to push Congress to work with him on immigration reform, it is extremely difficult to understand exactly what the authors are incensed about.

The Obama administration has repeatedly made it clear that it intends to enforce the laws Congress enacted. This issue is squarely about prosecutorial discretion and executive authority, concepts even the authors of the editorial heartily endorse. Given the lack of analysis of the actual announcement or the guidelines, this editorial reads more like a boilerplate complaint about Obama?s politics than an actual analysis of the policy underlying the new immigration guidelines.

Real Estate and Home Appliances ? Blog Archive ? Condominium ...

A special administrative region of China, Hong Kong is an exotic destination, with more than 250 islands. Once a British Colony, Hong Kong became a part of China in 1997. Apart from a hot tourist center, Hong Kong is also regarded as a great business center, and is sometimes referred to as the ?Gateway to the booming economy of China.?

Further, in contrast to other Asian destinations, Hong Kong has a very low crime rate, and hence considered a safe place to live in. Since a former British colony, a strong influence of westernized culture is prevalent here. Al though, majority of Hong Kong?s population is made up of Chinese, the city also include people from other nations including Australia, the UK, Canada, Japan, and Korea. Probably for this reason, real estate market in Hong Kong is booming.

Whether you are a permanent resident or a tourist to the city, Hong Kong boasts of a continuum of accommodation options, according to your taste, lifestyle, and budget. Hotels, resorts, condotels, and villas would be some of the best accommodation for people touring Hong Kong for a short period.

For long stays as well as permanent settlements, some of the much favored accommodation choices are single detached homes, flats, apartments, and townhouses. Along with these accommodation choices, condominiums or condo units are also considered a great housing option in Hong Kong.

A condominium living is quite different from other residential choices including owning or renting an apartment, villa, or a single dwelling space. When you decide to stay in a condominium it means that you have made up your mind to live with a group of other condominium owners.

]]>

Depending upon your tastes and preferences, a variety of condo units are available in Hong Kong, from low budget condominiums to high end luxury condominium complexes. Different types of condominiums available here include apartment model condo units and townhouse, which is mostly attached with garage and yard space. Hong Kong condominiums are also sometimes available in the form of single detached buildings.

Condominiums units in Hong Kong are mostly replete with expansive living rooms, superb bedrooms coupled with relaxed beds, sophisticated kitchen, and bath area. No matter it is small or big, luxury or ordinary, condominium units in Hong Kong mostly come with such amenities as cable television, heating and air conditioning facilities, provision for hot and cold water, balcony providing excellent views, and professional services.

Luxury units usually include high-end common facilities such as laundry facilities, game rooms, whirlpool spas and saunas, swimming pools, meeting rooms, parking areas, round the clock on-site security system, intercom security system, on-site office for property management, solarium with areas for gatherings and social activities, specialized areas for outdoor recreational activities, salons with expert massage therapist, parking areas, and on-site workshop.

Owning a condominium in Hong Kong offers a myriad of benefits. One of the great benefits of living in condo units is that it enables you to reside in a well-controlled community. Security is another key benefit of living in Hong Kong, as many of the condominiums are attached with top-end monitoring system. Benefits of living in condominium also include low interior as well as exterior maintenance costs and access to such facilities as elevators and swimming pools.

Mostly, people staying in condominium complexes have common lifestyle and preferences, which in turn allow you to lead a comfortable life. For instance, there are condominium units especially designed and constructed for people like retirees and single people. Above all, purchasing a condominium unit in Hong Kong is considered a great long term investment, guaranteeing excellent returns. However, the price of condominium units is exceptionally high in contrast to other accommodations options such as apartments and single houses.

However, it is important to consider certain important matters prior to purchasing a condominium in Hong Kong. The rules and regulations pertaining to condo units vary from condominiums to condominiums. In certain cases, the condominium association or group put forward some kind of restrictions to own pets or to use a particular facility. Hence, such matters must be checked for. Purchasing or renting a condo unit in Hong Kong is no longer a tedious process. A myriad of real estate companies and property builders are there in order to help you find a condo unit that suits your requirements.

Ever hear of bone spurs, or inner infections, thinning blood that makes me dizzy all the time. It sounds like I?m a whiner I know, but when you don?t feel good you can feel really old.

Because I?m a baby boomer I?m now old enough to qualify for a program funded by the state and federal government called Medicaid. However we all know how well Obama has done with his initiatives when it comes to health care. As my generation begins to reach nursing home age I wonder if there will be any health care left to help pay for any medical bills. As I mentioned earlier I have a few health concerns and visiting a doctor sometimes is a must.

It does not matter what state if live in if you are a legal citizen of the United States. The United States has created a health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes, resources, and or certain disabilities, the program is called Medicaid. It is a program funded by the state and federal governments and is managed by the states. A few states have their own names for Medicaid . For example ?TennCare? in Tennessee and Department of Children and Families in Florida, and ?Medi-Cal? in California. States my opt to bundle together the administration of Medicaid with other programs such as the Children?s health Insurance Program (CHIP), so the same organization that handles Medicaid in a state may also manage the additional programs.

If this isn?t enough to confuse you, the more research I do the more I find new changes such as: that within different states separate programs may also exist in some localities that are funded by the states or their political subdivisions to provide health coverage for indigents and minors. So how does one keep on track of all these changes- have you ever heard of a health advocate? Neither had I but a buddy at work has had one for years that checks in with him, or he can call in when ever he has questions, the program is called Social Service Coordinators .

Have you ever heard of a health advocate? I hadn?t either but upon my search in Google I found Social Service Coordinators , the leading health advocate center in the country with over 8,000 public or privately sponsored programs nationwide. These programs are designed to assist you with energy costs saving plans, telephone, transportation, property tax help, and health- co payment assistance. That?s what the Google said anyway, so I looked them up.

They also have available to me and you the benefit of over 200 different Pharmacy Assistance Programs (PAP) that help qualifying Medicare beneficiaries with discounted or free medication. Social Service Coordinators has been able to assist me personally with the right Pharmacy Assistance Program that offered me much needed assistance and I?ve been able to maintain my medications regimen and stay compliant my doctors orders.

Can I afford to get sick- yes and no. I really can?t miss work and I don?t rake in the money however it is now comforting to know someone has my back. With SSC I have been able to get a grip on my medical bills and if I have a question on a health care item I just give my advocate a call. SSC?s sole purpose is to direct me to the benefits- public and private programs that help me save money so I can see a doctor when I need to and not have to worry about a large medical bill that I can?t afford. That is great peace of mind.
