As Mr. Harvey turns another year older (this Saturday, July 21 is his second birthday!!), I can?t help but look back on these beautiful two years and reminisce about how our love story all began?
He was a puppy of only 10-weeks when I first laid eyes on him. ?I scooped him up for the adoption center floor, sat him in my lap, and let him pee on me. ?It was love.
We have lived a pretty spectacular life together for the past two years, and then a few months back, out of the blue, I got an email from Mr. Harvey?s long lost relatives: his sister, mother and father. ?They sent over some pictures and, for the first time, I was able to pinpoint where my Harvey?s accepting eyes, charming?wrinkles and loveable side-tongue came from. ?It was pure magic.
If you have never known the joy of owning a rescue dog, you may not realize how profound it is to witness/track the origins of your pup. ?Many rescue dogs enter homes without having a history to bring with them. ?It breaks my heart knowing that so many dogs will never know the joy of a ?lifetime? together with a loving family, and many more will never know a loving family at all.
So on this, my Mr. Harvey?s second birthday week, I make a wish for all of the pound puppies of the world. I simply wish that, in one form or another, they get to experience the love of an owner and the joy of a home of their own.
?
In honor of Mr. Harvey?s birthday, I am making a $100 donation to Best Friends Animal Society. ?If you would like to join in my celebration of puppy love, I encourage you to also donate to this worthy cause.
